What is the name of your state? NC

hi, purchased a 1997 audi a4 w/124K miles. car seemed to be in very good condition. ad stated it had a new water pump, timing belt, tires and all books and records. exactly one week after purchased, the water pump seized and blew a head gasket. now i have approximately $2500 in bills and the car has been out for 5 days and will be out at least another week. the service records do not show a water pump and actually show the timing belt was replaced 50K miles earlier and the two of the tires appear to be two years old and the other two are unknown. obvioulsy these parts are not new. what recourse do i have? i purchased through an individual but the paperwork all shows a used car dealership. no warrantly.

And the reason you didn't bother reading the service records before you purchased was...?

Anyway, if you got the 1.8T motor, the timing belt is supposed to be replaced ~75k. What typically happens is that the water pump is changed at the same time as it runs off the timing belt and its a PITA to go back in there should it break in the future (which it usually does ~100k. You got 20% better performance from yours, hard to complain).

Now, just sit back and wait till your stock oil cooler breaks and sends the 4+ quarts of oil into your cooling system. That's a fun mess.

Your own fault. The buyer should have had a working pair of eyeballs at time of purchase. Frankly, you should have bought yourself a used Yugo. Those things are like disposable diapers. Use one. After 10 minutes it turns to sh*t. Then, simply buy yourself another one. For the amount of money you've invested, you could have bought yourself 100 Yugos.

Drive the car to the seller's home. Place a sign 100 feet from the front and another the same distance from the back. Pour about 50 gallons of gasoline inside and out then light the damn clunker on fire.

Oh, and the signs should read "WORTHLESS CAR - SELLER LIVES HERE"

Because that's about all you CAN do legally. The law isn't here to protect you from your own stupidity. And since you did NOTHING to evaluate the car like taking it to your own mechanic for a thorough check, you're stuck with it.

Remember this?
i purchased through an individual but the paperwork all shows a used car dealership. no warrantly.
What did you think no warranty meant? Only for people other than you?

You're just upset that you didn't get the answer you wanted to hear!! You as the consumer have the responsibility of doing your research before you buy the vehicle, such as having a certified mechanic check it out for repair issues. From your own post you didn't state that you had that done. You just purchased the car based on what the ad said. Sorry pal but you screwed yourself.........CAVEAT EMPTOR

Read your own post. You did not ask for a solution. You asked what recourse you have. You got your answer. If you want somebody to blindly tell you just how handsome you are, that's what mothers are for.

And to think I was going to rattle off a list of other the known problem areas on the A4s which he should probably have checked out before they break, too. Oh well, I like the bonfire idea better, anyway.
