Hi, I am currently writing a book about famous quotes. I am going to state after each quote who actually came up with it, but my question is, do I need to have some kind of licence, warrant etc. to publish book about famous quotes? Thanks.

What is the name of your state, IgorBeres, or, if not in the US, what is the name of your country?

This site deals with the laws of the USA, Igor. I'm afraid no one here is familiar with Slovakian law.

It is the Slovak republic.
Thank you for providing that information. FreeAdvice handles US law questions only. You will have to look at the copyright laws in your area to see what you need to do to avoid infringing on rights.

In the US, it is generally the case that famous quotes properly attributed to their source can be used in a compilation without infringing on copyrights as long as what is copyrightable in other compilations (e.g., selection, footnotes) is not reproduced in the new work. The use of quotes generally would fall under the US doctrine of fair use.

But you will need to find out what the laws are in the Slovak Republic as US laws do not apply to you. Good luck.
