What is the name of your state? NV

In November of 2004, I went AWOL from the Marine Corps Reserve. Then in May of 2005, I had to return my gear and talk with the Commanding Officer. He told me that I would receive an OTH discharge if I did not show up for the next drill. I told him that I would not be there. It is now September and I have still not heard anything about the discharge. I know the Marine Corps is known for being slow with discharges, but it's been almost 5 months. Last week, I called the Gunnery Sergeant and he told me that I could still get back in, but would have to make up all of the drill (40 total). He also said that my paperwork is in the process of going to the General for final approval of my discharge for Other Than Honorable . My question is, if I do not show up for drills, how long will if take for me to receive the paperwork for my discharge? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Being UA from a SMCR Unit is different from being UA from an Active duty unit unless of course your unit has been activated. Your Discharge will be processed in due time but don't hold your breath. With retention down, your Gunny will probably continue to give you opportunities to come back into the fold. Your OTH is just a paperwork drill.
Peltlaw,

Even if he is a Reservist, he is on Active status or he wouldn't be considered AWOL. Remember, we are at war, and that--in itself--carries its own special circumstances.

Bosox2004,

Are you sure you want an Other Than Honorable Discharge? Are you aware of the consequences of this type of discharge? If I were you--(I'm not, and wouldn't go AWOL in the first place!) I would turn myself in and, if given the option, rejoin my unit and serve out my time. Then, I would do ANYTHING within my power to live down that negative impression you've left with your Commander to earn myself an Honorable Discharge when my contract is up.

Your selfish behavior is NOT helping you succeed in life. An OTH discharge will follow you everywhere. I hope you like working in fast food restaurants.
