My parents applied for a variance in the condominium by-laws to allow their dog to move in with them. The variance was denied for my mother. The board said that even though she had letters from doctors stating that the dog was a necessity because she has no sense of smell, that smoke detectors were adequate. However, on appeal, a variance was approved for my father. My father is now deceased. My mother is worried that once the board discovers this, they will kick out her dog. In the interim, other residents are placing hang up calls to her. Last week a resident came to the door threatening to have my mother (and her dog) thrown out. Any chance my mother can get covered under the ADA Act? How about stopping the other residents from harrassing her?
