Vehicle Registration...PLEASE, I need your HELP!

Just recently, I received a ticket for speeding. On top of that, I was ticketed for expired registration (what a surprise to me). I paid the fine for the speeding, because I was honestly guilty of that and believe I have no contest for that in court. However, as far as the other fine (125 bucks) goes, I honestly did not know. I am 21 years of age now and for 5 years the registration information came via mail from the state. Also, the vehicle passed in state inspection when it was expired (just 1.5 months ago). I'm not the only one at fault here...the state never held up to their end of the bargain by not sending me the information and it even slipped by the state inspection station. Let me know what you think, because I never have been to one of these magisterial court rooms before and I don’t want to go in there empty handed and loose a battle I think I might have a chance with. The fact you did not receive a courtesy notice will not be a defense. It is incumbent upon you to see that your vehicle's registration is current and valid. "I forgot," will not be a defense.

As they say, ignorance is no defense. Just because you didn't realize that your registration was expired does not amount to a defense in court. It is your responsibility to re-register your vehicle. Not what you wanted to hear, I know. There is not much you can do except to pay the collateral or appear in court. If you appear in court, follow seniorjudge's rules. You want to have your registration updated and explain to the judge that it was your mistake, do not go into how it is not all your fault. Leave out all of that about...

It's not going to do you any good. In my opinion you don't have a chance anyway. But hey, why not give it a shot. I, however, would pay the ticket. Hope this helps
