I live in Louisiana and had a verbal agreement with my landlord. He agreed that my son and I could live in the apartment for as long as I paid my rent. He reassured me that I was a welcome tenant and he would not ask me to leave even if family members needed a place to live. ( he has 3 granddaughters who have lived in this apartment in the past, one has been my roommate for the past year). Three weeks ago I was told I have to move out so that his son can move in. I was told I had some time to find a new place, but that the son and his wife needed to move as soon as possible. I did find a new rental and the expenses for the move came to over $1200.00. None of the utilities were in my name and now they are calling me to pay $300.00 for last months bills. Am I liable for any of those bills in anyway except of course morally? They broke the agreement with me and I do not have the extra money to pay for the bills, but I am afraid of harrassment. PLEASE let me know if verbal agreements are binding and if I am liable.
Thank you.

Your post is confusing. If you moved in accordance with verbal notice, then you executed and ratified landlord's request. You should pay rent through time you lived there. In future, make all of your verbal agreements IN WRITING.

COME ON DARIA:

Rednecks DO NOT put things in writing so they can screw you when ever they want to .

This will be a VERY expensive lesson in Life Skills with REDNECKS!

still confused

Am I liable for utility bills not in my name? If the other party did not honor their agreement with me?
