what is the name of your state? tennessee

my husband has a full time job as a carpenter for a construction
company. he also subs out paint jobs on the side for extra cash. i was approached by a coworker who wanted my husband to give him a bid on painting the outside of his home. my husband looked at his home and bid the job. the coworker told me he liked the bid and since my husband was recomended by my boss (whom he did some work for in the past) he hired him. my husband made it clear to my coworker that he would only be able to work on his house after work on on weekends pending his work schedule. knowing all this my coworker still wanted him to do the work. well about 4 weeks into the job the coworker and his wife started getting upset with my husband because the job was not near finished. my husband had a conversation with my coworker a week before memorial day. he asked my husband if he could have his house finshed by then because he was having a party and wanted everything done. my husband told him yes and hired two men to go out to his house the whole week before memorial day. that saturday before memorial day my husband went to finish up and do the final walk through on his house. my coworker told my husband to put his tools in his truck and get off his land. he told my husband that his last day on the job was friday and that he had hired someone else to finish his house. he gave my husband a check for $1500 to pay his help and told him if there was any money left after he paid these other people that he would give him the balance. as it stands he owes us $1500 there was no contract only a bid i typed up on the computer. please tell me if it's worth my time to take him to court.

Q) "please tell me if it's worth my time to take him to court."
A) How valuable is your time??? If it is worth $500 per hour, it probably isn't worth it.
