What is the name of your state? NH

I live in NH, and have a 12 year old dog who is losing his battle against cancer. My veterinarian gives him a couple of months to live, even with chemo or radiation therapy. So, pretty soon, I'll have to put him to sleep. I'd prefer to do this myself, dispatching him with a handgun (yes, it sounds gory, but its actually a quick and painless way to go, more so than lethal injection, which our veterinarian did with with our last dog). Is doing this legal in NH or VT, or am I required to have a veterinarian do the euthanizing?
