I'm not a lawer, but I do know that in most,if not all states you can file for an "emergency protective order" against someone who has threatened or assaulted you. In some states you can go so far as obtaining an order that gives you the right to use "deadly force" against someone who is in violation of a protective order that you have obtained against them.
I'm sorry, but law enforcement and prosecution attorneys are often unsymphathetic. They deal with this every day, so you are only a number to them.
My advice is unorthodox I admit, but Big Brother can't protect us all the time, but at least in some cases he gives us the right to protect ourselves.
Here is something else you could try:
Phone the prosecutor and explain to him that you have suffered a sudden loss of memory concerning the incident. This will indicate to him(theoretically) that he needs to provide you with an incentive to get what he wants-hopefully protection.
But if the defendant is as crazy as you have described, I doubt that it will really matter whether you testify against him or not. He will still blame you.
So, in this reguard, take matters in to your own hands, and do everything that you can do legally to assure your own safety.---seth
