Ok, I'm writing this on behalf of a friend of mine who has been convicted of drug charges about 5 years ago. The outcome of the case was 5 years probation and the usual fines and legal fees.
The problem about this is that this person was having hard times financially and was unable to pay on the fine and became afraid to report to probation about 2 years ago and hadn't reported since then.
The first 3 years of the probation went fine and I know this person has never done anything other than not showing up or paying the fines in a timely manner.
Is there anything that can be done for this person to clear their name without having to face a prison sentance?
This case is in Texas and the person I'm referring to is a single parent raising 2 children.

If your friend's probabtion violation is failure to pay the fine, this should not be a problem, because it's a technical violation of the rules. However, I would not appear without an attorney or alone, for you never can tell what the judge may do. The first thing you have to do is find out if there's a warrant out for your arrest and what's the bail. If there is bail set, ask that it be exonerated. I would plead not guilty to the probabtion violation at this point. You're entitled to a hearing on the violation. But if you have an attorney he should be able to appear for you. He can find out what needs to be done to get your probation reinstated or terminated. If your friend hasn't been arrested or is otherwise not in violation of the probation, s/he should be ok. But talk to an attorney.
