Violation because of guests

I received a letter on my door from my property manager stating that I am in violation of my lease because I have an unauthorized person living with me who is not on my lease. My child and I are on the lease and my significant other spends the night occasionally. I spoke with my very rude property manager today and was told that there are 'witnesses' relaying to the property manager that my significant other spends the night occasionally. In my lease it states that guest visiting me may not reside in the leased premises for more than two weeks in any calendar year without prior written consent. How can a witness actually confirm that my significant other spends the night with me other than being there overnight themselves? My significant other picks me up in the mornings for work and stays late some evenings so can't it be hearsay? If it doesn't stop, then I could be subject to an eviction. I feel that I am being singled out and being watched 24 hours a day now. This is my home, not the dorm. And the worst thing about all of this is I have lived in this community for 10 years.

why don't you ask your management co was the rule on "significant others" visitation or staying over. The complaints could be from your own neighbors or someone who is too interested in your business. I don't know if proof that he resides elsewhere would help either. Does your lease state "2 total weeks " in a calendar year or " 2 consecutive weeks " in a calendar year?? And it would be hard to prove either, unless they've traveled. Communicate with your rental mgmt and find a reasonable and viable solution for both.

You may consider it your home, but it's someone else's property.

You've already admitted that your significant other spends the night occasionally. What's "occasionally?" Could you be making any noise that might disturb the other tenants (my upstairs neighbor used to bring his girlfriend over Friday or Saturdays to party until 2:30 a.m. or later)?

There might be something else behind this. I'd have a chat with management.
