What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? New York
Can someone please explain to me the legal privileges granted to a game that sells virtual items for money?
Lets say the sites currency is ETC for the sake of it, and 100 ETC = $1 USD.
Presuming you buy a set number of ETC, what legal rights do you have over it, and what legal rights do they have over you?
If for some reason you end up doing a charge back through something such as paypal, what exactly if any legal ramifications COULD there be?
Are you entitled to any sort of chargeback?
Most sites claim that you don't own the items/currency/etc for the game (which is true) so could they actually try to have you legally penalized if you sought your money back?
And is there a difference between sites that explicitly list their currency as a DONATION reward or as a definitive SALE?
It's not really an imminent question, it's just a headache when I like to play games and I feel like I'm risking my money if I wanted to buy something since I don't know if something were to happen if I'd be able to get my money back.
For example, in one game I had intended to "PURCHASE" credits they sold, the server was wiped shortly after. If I HAD purchased credits they would be gone, would I have the right to get my money back?
It's all really confusing and there doesn't seem to be any definitive answers around.
PS: What if the game is foreign based such as sweden?
