A few months ago, my friend and I were caught shoplifting and our court date is coming up in three weeks. We will admit that our actions were wrong and extremely stupid and we are responsible for everything. However, I was wondering if I am interested in studying abroad this fall in Spain, will I be able to obtain a visa if I have this (possible) conviction on my record? This is my first offense and I don't know whether or not the DA is going to charge me with a misdemeanor or an infraction. There is a possibility that I would be on probation for a year or so. Could I still study abroad and obtain a visa while on probation? If not, what can I do to possibly study abroad?
I don't want to waste all my time filling out the paper work for this academic program if there is no chance for me to go. I would really appreciate any advice.
