my son and I live in maine but his father lives in canada.We have joint custody and son lives with me. His father has been telling him that when he is 12(this november)that he can move over and live with him.is this true? what would happen if he decided not to give him back after a visitation.would i have problems getting him back?

No it is not true. He would need to petition the courts for custody first. What will go against him is that the US does not like to lose jurisdiction. Allowing the father to take the child out of the US will do just that.. If the father decided not to return the child then you would have much bigger problems than if he lived somewhere else in the US. Does your visitation agreement allow for the child to be sent to another country? If not, then do not allow it.
