My husband and I recently took in his nephew. We have the nephew with the mother's permission and she is signing guardianship papers. Our concern is that she wants to give a lot of rules and seems very angry at the child. If she gets mad at us and decides to yank him away, we have no recourse.

Because of some of the things he has told us that we were not aware of, and other things we have heard from third parties, we now know this is not a good place for him to live. He has told us he will not go back.

What should we do to prepare in order to protect our nephew if the mother tries to take him back? At this point everything is voluntary. Should we try to encourage her to sign over custody? Should we put something else in place. The nephew will tell a judge he wants to stay here. The other thing the nephew mentioned was that he was trying to get emancipated. He already has a lawyer. We aren't sure if maybe we should just go ahead and let him go forward with the emancipation and then let him stay here.

It's a very confusing situation to us and we just aren't sure how to proceed. Right now the mother is happy to have him here, so we aren't sure if we should rock the boat. However, we know she is capable of changing her mind in a heartbeat too and there wouldn't be a thing we could do about it at this point.

Thanks for any and all advice.
