State of Illinois, We have a small lawn mowing business. When my husband was not able to work a member of my family agreeded to help us out. Now he wants paid for his volunteer work. At no time when he was helping did he say to us from this point I want to be paid. He had worked for us earlier but when it became a hardship we told him we could no longer pay him for his services. He has contacted Illinois department of labor and is suing for wages. What can we do?
