I am currently employed with a payday advance company. There were a few issues at first with them dangling the possibility at being hired on at a management position. However, at the time of hiring they told me that I would start as a CSR and told me that they would only give me minimum wage (at the time I was unemployed and had just moved to the area for my wife's promotion so I was desperate and accepted). It was a blow to my pride as I have a more than reasonable resume, am at least somewhat educated and have above average computer skills.
This job has required a lot from me. I do field calls on people's houses who owe money, I am responsible for making numbers doing marketing, I am responsible for making debits/withdrawals from the bank, I handle large sums of money and confidential information, the only difference between my position and a manager's is basically the pay.

I decided to give the business a chance anyways and continued to serve out my 90 day introductory period. After training, they sent me to a center with only an assistant manager and myself...with the promise at a chance to become the manager of the location. After the girl, who was hired at the same time I was, proved to be inadequate for a more busy center, we were switched and I was placed at the busier location. After a few weeks, we were aloud to hire additional help for the busier location. The girl who was hired now makes 9 an hour, while I'm still making 8 an hour. I was some what willing to ignore this as I am supposed to be up for a promotion and I reasoned that she may deserve something of a pay increase for being bilingual.

I was called some time ago for a job opportunity at Carlsbad that would pay considerably more, but eventually turned it down as my wife had just been promoted to this location and has been making decent money.
But, while I was still considering it, I mentioned this opportunity to my district manager and stated that I was needing a raise in order to easily ignore this offer. I aimed at 10, hoping for at least 9, maybe 9.50 with the promotion, as the new girl is getting 9 an hour. I was informed that this promotion would only carry an extra 50 cents an hour and it would not be possible to get anymore.
The manager at my center has left for promotion with virtually no notice and no chance to prepare the store for her departure, and I am essentially the manager of the busiest location of the region, and getting paid 8 an hour. The level of stress and responsibility is way too high for this amount of pay. I feel they are going to keep things as they are as long as they can make money at it. They are using the fact that there are little to no job opportunities out there to squeeze us in a tight spot.
With the reality of the promotion in my mind, I have recently decided to look for new work seriously again.
Is there any recourse that I can take against the company? I feel that the hours that I have given and the amount of time that I have worked have not been properly compensated.
It has become so ridiculous, I have considered quitting all together to seek new employment full time. Would I still qualify for unemployment if I quit for this reason?

Is there any recourse that I can take against the company? Not based on what you have posted.

I feel that the hours that I have given and the amount of time that I have worked have not been properly compensated. As far as the law is concerned, as long as you are receiving the higher of state and Federal minimum wage, and you are, you have been legally compensated.

It has become so ridiculous, I have considered quitting all together to seek new employment full time. Would I still qualify for unemployment if I quit for this reason? No.
