AFter working 27 years for the same employer, I chose to accept a position with another company, for better working conditions, pay and chance for advancement. I always had an excellent rapport with owners, supervision and management, and was a model employee. I left under good terms, giving 2 1/2 weeks notice, and fully prepared those who were taking over for me.
I had accrued vacation time for the 9 1/2 months that I worked in 2000, and requested compensation for this a week before I left the company. I was told that it would be taken care of. It has been 5 weeks now since I started my new job, and my employer paid me only 32 hours out of the 200 hours they owed me. Several weeks ago, I was told by the Office Manager that they would look into it and call me the next day. I have been trying to reach her ever since, and she now refuses to accept my calls.
Who can help me? I can't afford to pay a lawyer. I was counting on this money to help pay some bills.
Is it fair that I am being treated this way after 27 years of loyal service to a company?

You may receive some help from United State Department of Labor, also speak to a legal clinic or a labor employment attorney, there are lawyers who give a free initial consulation, and lawyer fees maybe recoverable or included in the lawsuit for recovery of an added expense cause by employer mishandling of the matter. Time given doesnot mean anything these days, good worker or not. It is ovious your Human Resource person is just trying to collect a feather in her hat, by saving money owed to you. Hope, I may have been of some help.

get your money

Enough with the phone calls and make sure you document everything. This is a simple claim, for goods and services sold. If it was to go to court, it would most likely be small claims. You were hired to do a specific job for a specific amount of money....they defaulted. I am not a lawyer, so I am telling you what I did, faced with the same issue. I wrote to them giving them till the end of the week to pay, or I would procede with a claim for goods and services sold in the proper venue. It worked for me...will it work for you? I don't know. Taking someone to small claims court is not a difficult..time consuming yes. Good luck.

Again...I am not a lawyer
