For years we have paid a county tax on business tools as the billings arrived...not very much money, less then $9.00 for a small mom and pop arts and craft business. This year we didn't receive a billing or any notice that the monies were due, we only received a letter of Distraint from the County Sheriff's office. The County (Kootenai) now demands that we pay $28 since the tax bill went past due....no billing or dunn was ever received...we have owned a business here for the last 25 years and never had a problem. I know that the mail is not 100% and with a good track record I'm hoping they will back off...I'm disabled and on social security with a limited income.

1. The sheriffs office says they know nothing of the order.
2. The treasurer's office said I need to pay my bills wheather I get an invoice or not!
3. I wrote requesting relief they didn't answer my registered letter.
4. Today we got a call that the commissioners have scheduled a meeting for me . Can you beleive this for $8.00?
5. Is this going to be a "lamb on the alter" experience?
6. Can I file in small claims court in an attempt to find a remedie.
7. Another woman in the treasurers office told me that this was just a hidden tax disguised as a fine....but aren't they all.
8. We don't have lots of money, just trying to keep a roof over our head...your help would be sincerely appreciated. Thank You
