What is the name of your state? ohio
I recently purchased a vehicle from a used car lot which is costing me triple the amount I payed for the van. We asked the owner several times if there was anything wrong with the van. His reply was. "no, the previous owners drove it from Pennsylvania." he had it priced at $595 and sold it to us for $334. 'A is' We didn't even get the van home and the transmission started slipping. We couldn't go in reverse. It is costing us $1402 to rebuild the transmission because of the damage caused by no transmission fluid. i was wondering if there was anything legally i could do or did i get screwed.

Probably not............

If the title was delivered to you at the time of sale and the bill of sale stated "as is" the answer is no. However questionable, many dealers accept former owners statements concerning vehicle condition as fact and take their word on things. An "as is" statement supercedes any verbal comments that were made prior to sale. You did not say what year and model the van is but from the amount of money involved, it probably would not be worth fixing. I would either part it out, call a salvage yard or put a "for rent" sign in it. (sorry, I couldn't resist, memory going back to the van's of the 60's)

What do you expect for $334? A decent running and driving car is worth at least $750 in today's market. You got what you paid for.

I'm in awe about a vehicle for that amount of money. You could part it out and it be worth more than that. As-is means as-is, you should have had it checked out before purchasing. If that is all you could afford, then you are too poor to be that careless. It's not that much money, you might be able to make a nice flower bed or fort for the kids.
