Hi, I'm unsure if this is the correct place, but it would eventually go to debt collection so I assumed this might work best.

Ive been going back and forth with a sorority I disafilliated from due to financial hardship. On Oct. 18th I notified them I wanted to disaffiliate and I signed the contract on Oct. 24. I was a recruitment counselor (known as a Phi Rho Chi or PRC) for the Panhellenic council and forced to resign from my position due to my disafilliation. This resulted in the chapter being fined $150 due to my resignation from the position. Nowhere in the contract I signed for being a PRC did it specify it was a fine for the individual PRC in fact it was with all the other fines for a chapter. I reached out to the Panhellenic Council for clarification and the president told me that the fine goes to the chapter. Now the chapter is trying to fine me $150 after my disaffiliation. I was told at the time of signing the disafilliation contract that I owed what was in my account at the time, which was $0 so I was all set. This was on Oct. 24. 3 days later, on Oct. 28, they tell me they are fining me the $150 after the Panhellenic Council fined the chapter. I asked them to please show me where I am responsible for paying this fine, especially as I was told that I was all set at the time of my disaffiliation. They were did not do so and then fined me through the billhighway dues service on Nov. 18th. I reached out to the regional chapters manager and she told me national policy is to pay fines incurred while an affiliated with the association. This fine was incurred after my disaffiliation. The chapter is refusing to cancel the fine right now and is now threatening that if I don't pay the $150 it will go to a collections agency and hurt my credit. I cant afford to pay this fine and especially can't afford to come up with that money by the due date of Dec. 21. Is there anything I can do? Do I have to pay this fine?

Thank you for any help.

Contact the Panhellenic Council AGAIN and show them documents that you are being assessed the fine against the PH rules and intent.
