 Hello All:

Please share your thoughts with me in regards to Washington Mutual as a "company".

Thank you,

My response:

Why ?

What's the legal question ?

If you are asking simply as a potential investor in the company, talk to a stock broker, or check out their Standard & Poor's index.

My response:

Okay, I have a couple of gripes . . .

I'm not too thrilled with the fact that their tellers, whom I do not know, tend to use my first name when I make a deposit. I mean, let's get real here ! I was always taught to never use someone's first name until such time as permission was given. Otherwise, it was always, "Mr." or "Ms." I'm not one for "familiarity", especially from some 18 year old teller. You know the old saying, "Familiarity breeds contempt."

And another thing too . . .

In my particular branch, the "powers that be" changed the layout of the bank - - you know, where the tellers stand, where the desks are located, and where people need to stand before they see a teller or bank manager. The layout was perfectly good as it was, and now I have to re-learn where I must be after entering the bank ! One time, I was standing, and waiting, for a bank manager - - where I thought I was supposed to be - - when, to my chagrin, I missed my place in line to talk to the manager, and all because I was standing in the wrong place ! C'mon, how ridiculous was that ?

Well, that's it for my complaints.

Hope this helps.

I forgot. I have another complaint about Washington Mutual Bank.

During holidays, and let's take Halloween for an example, you go into the bank and everyone is wearing these dumb costumes and make-up ! I mean, how "professional" is that ? And, I'd like to know who's paying for all these various holiday costumes, and the decorations, and everything else ? Are my fees going for these stupid antics ? If so, and assuming the employees are not paying for these things, why not do away with all of this crap, and lower my monthly fees, or increase the interest rates on savings. C'mon already, this stuff is expensive !

My response:

You want to know about "loan issues" ?

Well, have I got a "loan issue" for you !

I went into the bank, and finally, finally, got to see a loan manager (another title for someone who read the same pamphlet as I had read), and was given all sorts of papers to fill out ! I can't believe it, but there must have 15 "legal length" forms to fill out !

All I wanted was a lousy $1,000.00 loan for 7 days, and I had to go through all this ? When I asked the "manager" to assist me in filling out the papers, his simple reply was, "We don't do that". Can you believe it ? I mean, it would have taken me the 7 days just to read and fill out all this stuff !

So, I left the bank, completely disgusted with the process, and went to see my good ol' buddy, "Vinnie (the Nose) Salvatore" and got my loan faster than the speed of light. I just have to pay Vinnie the principle plus $250.00 extra, "for his service", and that's that. Sometimes, it just doesn't pay to wake up in the morning.

My further response:

Boy, oh, boy !

Now you've got me going ! I do have another gripe about the bank. The more I think about this issue, the madder I become !

Your question is just now bringing all these problems to the surface, that I've been holding inside, and wondering why I've been so upset lately. I've been taking Pepcid AC during the day for all of my stomach upset, and the constant abdominal churning, and I just realized it's all because of Washington Mutual Bank !

Here's another problem I've got with them, that's just been eating me up inside . . .

You know, lately, there have been lots of bank robberies with these masked guys coming into the bank and scaring the bejeebers out of everyone. I thought Washington Mutual was a fairly safe bank to conduct business, and always believed that they believed that "customer safety" was first. Well, after a couple of bank robberies in the neighborhood, I decided to take a look around my branch to see how "they" were protecting me, their customer.

I couldn't believe it, and it's something you don't normally think about when you're in the bank, but they've got these two old, and I mean old, geezers dressed up as "guards" ! I mean, how "safe" can you feel with two 80 year old's watching out for "your" safety ? What does THIS bank think these guys are going to do during a robbery ? Stand in front of me to "take the bullet" ? No, I don't think so ! They'd probably die from a heart attack anyway. And, who wants some scrawny 80 year old near them, especially during an emergency ? Who is this bank kidding, anyway.

So, I got in line again, to talk this over with the manager, so I could tell him "we need guards in their 30's to protect me and everyone else". Do you know what this 20 year old "bank manager" said to me ?

"Those aren't guards. Those guys are dressed up in costumes for the bank's "kiss your guard day" ! !

I just left, shaking my head.

Boy was I all wet.
I never thought these guys were there to protect us, I always looked at them more like canaries in a coal mine.

All this time, I've always though that throughout the holdup process, I could merely bide my time and maintain my place in line secure in the knowledge that as long as both guards remained upright, that I was not yet a victim in the holdup which was occuring - the bank was. I could simply wait for an orderly return to the pre-holdup state of the bank, thence concluding my business.

The demise of one guard (whether by gun shot or myocardial infarction), would alert me that I was now much more likely to become a victim and that my apprehension level should rise accordingly. It would also serve as a notice that I should begin to consider patronizing a branch in a better neighborhood in the future.

Ditto the second guard (with a second attendant increase in level of apprehension), alerting me to the possibility that I would probably ultimately have to find another branch to conclude my banking business this day and may even have to take my banking business elsewhere after the inconvenience caused me by this bank.

Boy thank goodness I got this wake up call (thanks, IAAL) - but now I'm scared just thinking about two 80 year old guys with guns being expected to actually react during a holdup.

I'm considering starting to put my money under the mattress.

As to the original post -
The Washington Mutual seems to have no taste - their building in my neighborhood is really ugly.
