We own a condo on a different island from the one that we live.
Recently this condo was flooded by an overflowing toilet in the condo next to us. The flooding took place on Monday and we were not contacted until Thursday and unable to get to the Condo till that Saturday. When we arrived at the condo, the carpet in approximately half of the unit was still wet. On the following Monday an insurance adjuster came out representing the insurance company of the liable party. After his evaluation he told us he was recomending limiting the liability to extracting the carpet. While the adjuster was still with us, the extraction company called and told us that much too long of a time period had passed and that they recomended the carpet be replaced. The adjuster stated that he strongly disagreed with this recomendation. The extraction company stated that after 48 hours it was unreasonable to extract. The bad news in all of this is that we thought we had insured this unit last year when we bought it and never actually did. WE are now wondering how to proceed.

Why was an ajuster even there is you had NO insurance?

The adjuster represented the insured neighbor, who caused the damage.
