What is the name of your state? Florida

Our water flush tank leaked the other day to the apartment below. According to our homeowner's insurance policy, Florida is a no fault state. And since the leak is not due to negligent, even though the water leaked from our home, the damage to the neighbor's home should be covered by their policy.

Anyway, we felt bad and offered to pay their deductible. They refused and wanted us to pay for ALL the damages, that includes, repairing the ceiling, replacing the carpet and buying them a new mattress.

What should we do? Should we cut our losses here and just pay out of pocket to them? (don't really want to) Does he have a case against us if this is brought to court? We felt that he is taking advantage of the situation and wondered whether he had claimed from his insurance company and at the same time, wanting us to pay the damages too.

Thanks for reading this!
