What is the name of your state? Oklahoma. A developer came to my house this weekend and asked me to sign an easement giving him the right to put a water pipeline across the front of my property in order to develop a neighborhood in the area. Is it common to be compensated for such easements? If so, what is or how do I find out the fair market value.

Yes it is common but the value of such an easement depends on a lot of things that a real estate attorney in your area would be more than qualified to answer for you.

Absolutely!

How much do you want?

You tell the developer that YOU want to get YOUR lawyer and the developer should pay YOU for the lawyer fees to draw up the easement. Also, make the developer give you the legal description and all conditions for the easement.

You are in control at this point. Don't lose it.
