Jennifer,

This link is for Califonia's court system,

http://www.saccourt.com/family/support/support.asp

but it does define "Order to Show Cause" and explain a few other things, so I thought it might be helpful to you. I can understand your situation, my ex is nearly $15,000 in arrears also. The Department of Child Support in California is handling my case, and they can only do so much, and he doesn't care since mommy and daddy have bought him a house, a car, and everything he needs all in their name so I can't touch it. The Department of Child Support Services in California has put a lien on his parents property so when they die, before he can get his inheritience(sp? I even used a spell checker (IAAL....I know your anal, but still the best!) and it is not catching it! :) Either it's right or wayyyyy off), what is owes to me will be given to me. Maybe there is something similar in your state that you do if you've exhausted all other avenues.

Good luck to you!

arrests

OP, you're complaining because your ex is $15k in arrears. Ummm...having him arrested gets you that money quicker HOW....???
Some of you in your "situations" thinking the non-paying NCP should be thrown in jail is THE way to go is just hilarious. Yeah, that'll get the money rolling in now that s/he CAN'T WORK because their locked up.

somedude,
actually, getting the offender put behind bars does help with back child support- Trust me.... If his parents have everything in their names so junior can't have it taken for back child support, how long do you think they will allow their "baby" to sit behind bars before they come up with some cash to bail him out? Trust me she will get more this way than sitting around on her hands doing nothing. In Illinois a large portion of the bail money goes directly to the CP. My aunt went through this with her ex, (his mommy bailed him out)and now like a good boy he pays his child support on time because he would rather die than go back to jail :D

swing--- and a miss!

Critter, you're missing my point here.

You're talking about a specific situation. I'm talking generalities. I constantly see posts on here where the CP wants the non-paying NCP thrown in jail. It doesn't take much to realize that if someone is behind bars that they are NOT working.

no work = no pay check. Do we need to spell it out any further? Let's be realistic for just A second here.

However, if the deadbeat parent is THAT far behind $15k+, s/he isn't planning on paying anyway. So they may as well do something productive like make license plates.

somedude,
re-read the post... she specifically states that the NCP's parents keep everything in their name so she can't attach it for child support. If this is the case they are helping him avoid child support. If he were thrown in jail I have a very strong feeling that they would bail him out. You are completely right that no work = no check but if he isn't paying anyway at least you could get a warm and fuzzy knowing that bubba is keeping him occupied in jail :D :D
