What is the name of your state? Missouri. Our son is in the military and stationed in Kuwait. His wife lives just a few miles from us and has not been the ideal mother and wife during his tour. Together they have an 8 month old baby. Whenever the daughter in law thinks we have said something to our son about things she has done, she refuses to let us see the baby. Our oldest daughter was living with the daughter in law until our son returned so she would not have to be alone. Last week, the daughter in law got angry at the daughter and because we helped our daughter move her belongings and allowed her to move back home, our daughter in law has informed us we are never going to see the baby again. There is nothing our son can do about it where he is. Do we have any rights to see the baby?

You don't have a lot of hope right now, however document everything so that when the divorce comes (and it will) your son has a good chance at custody.

patch things up with your dil

ny-if you helped your daughter move,thats really none of your daughter in laws business.your conversations with your son are also none of her business.unfortunately,since the parents are married,you dont have a standing to sue for visitation,they have a right to decide who can see the baby and who cant.youre best bet would be to patch things up with your dil,maybe then youll be able to see the baby.otherwise.youre out of luck.

You have no rights at all.....you are going to have to wait until your son comes home to resolve the issue. Even if you could convince an attorney to take your case and convince a judge to give you "standing"...odds are it would either get put on hold until your son came home, or wouldn't be over before your son came home....Plus its even possible that once your son comes home she could convince him that YOU were the problem.

By all means go get a consult with an attorney if you feel you need to, but honestly, mom holds all the cards right now and fighting with her is just going to get you cut out of the child's life until your son returns....and may even complicate your SON's situation in regards to his child.

Why would she think that you have said things to your son?? Your son may be playing both sides of the fence to keep both sides happy.........He has enough to deal with in Kuwait without you calling him and "tattling" on his wife....Just a thought

Nope....not without involving the courts and that isn't going to happen while he is overseas.
