We signed our son up for martial arts lessons in St. Louis, Mo and paid $55.00 for the month. This was to include his uniform. After three weeks of lessons the owner asked me into his office and sold me lessons for my son over the next 3 years. I did not realize he was financing the payments through a bank. Within 36 hours my husband went up to the martial arts center and notified him in writing that we did not want our son to be obligated to three years since he was only 5 years old. Our son never went back and never took a singal class under that contract. Now the owner won't let us out of the contract and says we have to pay for these lessons. Are we locked into this or is there a way out?

Martial Arts contract

If the contract you had with the center was valid (and from the facts you give, there is no reason to think otherwise), then you are bound by the terms of the contract. If the contract has a provision for withdrawal of the student, then that would be the way to go. If not, then I can’t think of anything to advise other than try and negotiate a reasonable settlement.
