i understand that a url is copyrighted. does that mean i can't link to links within that site or to only do so under the fair use rules?

i thought you could link to any site whereever they appear.

Not true. What you want to do is called deep linking, posting a link to something other than the home page. It is up to the website owner if they want to allow deep linking. A common courtesy would be ask the website owner for permission.

And this statement is also not true. A url cannot be copyrighted. The website can be as well as it's contents.
