Hi. My husband and I are in need of help with regard to copyright laws surrounding wedding photography. We purchased our negatives from our wedding photographer and were told that this meant we now owned copyrights. There is no contract that exists between our photographer and ourselves stating who does own copyrights. We recently used an image of ourselves from the negatives we purchased in a tri-fold brochure that we designed for a friend. Now our photographer is saying this is an infringement of copyright. But, as we understand, we purchased those rights when we purchased the negatives. Is this true or are we vulnerable now to a lawsuit? Any advice you can provide is much appreciated. Thanks!
