Wells Fargo has been sending me checks in the mail for thousands of dollars. Attached to the checks is a letter which states I can deposit this money, but have to pay it back over 3 years with an additional fee included.
I have 2 problems with this.
1. It's a line of credit. They are sending basically a blank check through the mail. If someone were to intercept it, forge an endorsement, they could cash it at a no ID required check cashing place, and *I* would be liable for that money. They are putting my clean credit record in serious jeopardy.
2. I called the postal service, and they said it is mail fraud. It's illegal to send someone something they didn't request and then try to charge them for it, or attempt to enforce a list of stipulations.
I've requested numerous times that Wells Fargo stop sending me these checks, but they continue. I'm concerned that one might fall into someone else's hand and I'd be liable for the money. I've had my mail tampered with several times in the past, including having a new credit card stolen, and financial related mail arriving opened. I feel that my concern is very justified.
What can I do to make this stop?
