What is the name of your state? Indiana
I'll try to make this as short as possible, but the story has a history.
About 12 years ago, the woman I was dating became pregnant. We had planned to marry, but due to infidelity on both sides, we separated.
She soon after married the person she was seeing, but ordered that I have no contact with my child. And her family and that of her husband's threatened me to the point where I needed to leave the area for my own safety. Reluctantly, I saw no other option, and had no choice but to give up my parental rights.
Now, it's 12 years later and I thought that things had been dropped. I have three wonderful children with my wife of 12 years and we have a loving, stable home.
Well, it turns out that the daughter I never got to see became friends at school with my oldest daughter. And both found out that they were half-sisters. My wife and I knew nothing about this until my wife was accosted at the grocery store by the child's mother, my ex. She threatened to have our family "taken care of" if I didn't stop trying to contact "her" daughter.
I wasn't trying to contact her. I had no idea that the two girls had been speaking and had become close friends at school. I only found out when the guidance counselor called today. Turns out that both children are now worried that something is going to happen to me and my wife because of the way the other family is talking.
What can I do legally?
