I purchased a 2001 Chrysler Sebring convertible in late April 2005. It had a (3) month 3000 mile limited powertrain warranty (car had 28,000 miles). I was advised by the Ford dealer it had been a local trade and showed no problems with Carfax. I have had some minor problems during the warranty period which I paid for (about $300) worth the repairs - not powertrain related though). I started to have my suspicions that car may have been wrecked so I did a Carfax check recently and it still shows nothing. Here is my problem: In the last few days the following has happened: The check engine light came on and car would only operate in 2nd gear (automatic transmission). Of course this happened just after warranty expired. It still is in the shop (a local Chrysler dealer, not one I bought it from). I found out it needs a new transmission computer module. At at same time my wife and I were exploring new car insurance with our homeowners company. During this time, the agent asked how long we had the Sebring because they showed a $10,000 claim paid to previous owners on November 28. 2004. I then called the Ford dealership and talked to several people who basically said they checked Carfax and it showed OK so tough luck. I also thought based on the fact car had been in relatively serious accident they might pay for at least part of the transmission issue even though warranty had ran out. Again the same answer of tough luck. Do I have any legal claim against this dealer ?

You should have had the car inspected by an independent 3rd party prior to purchasing it. You bought it, now you need to deal with the problems. The dealership has no liability.
