What is the name of your state? TX
I had a claim last year, regarding an oven fire. We ended up with heavy smoke damage.
The insurance agent, not I, called a remediation company; we did not have a choice in the matter. We, at the time, trusted that she would handle it. Well come to find out I have a lean on my property for non-payment. The agent told us that she would be sending a check directly to the remediation company. We received checks for contents(smoke damaged appliances and furniture) And structure(replacing damaged countertops and having cabinets sanded and sealed where possible) Recieved an advance and never recieved out of pocket expenses back. There was a description on all checks for what they were for. Never got one that said for Remediaton Contractor. I feel the agent defrauded us and I am wondering what options I have.

First of all, while your agent can make recommendations, they do NOT get to decide who does work on your house. Second, the claims payments should be coming from an adjuster, unless the total amount of the payments were less than, say, $1000. So, you hired someone to clean your house out, and you didn't pay them. When you called the 1-800 claims #, and spoke to your adjuster about the bill, what did the claims adjuster say?

We were completely under the impression that she was handling the remediation company because of the fact that SHE called them; not us!!! The rest of the claim was managed by us.

It doesn't matter. There was an adjuster assigned to your case...so as Mo suggested call the 800 number and follow the trail until you talk with an adjuster.
