What is the name of your state? Alaska

I am 18 years old and a senior in high school. I would like to know if I can legally call in sick and check myself out of class if I am sick. I don't live with my parents but with my grandparents. The superintendent says that they still need to notify my grandparents and I must have an excuse from my grandmother if I am sick. I feel that I can do this on my own and the school has no right in calling my grandmother if I am tardy or for an excused absence. Please provide some guidance.

Thanks

You are legally an adult, unless the laws of your fair state say that you are not. You are not accountable for your whereabouts to your grandparents, much less school personnel. Here in TN, 18 year old students can write their own excuses. Feel free to submit, in writing, to the principal that the school does not have your permission to contact anyone concerning your education, as you are emancipated because of your age. If they violate your privacy, complain in person to the director of schools.

Alaska's compulsory attendance age is from Ages 7 to 16 or high school graduation. That being said, once you remain in school past the age of 16 you are responsible to the school district's rules and regulations.

Which simply means you can drop out of school or follow the rules.
