Hi,
I am having trouble getting a "friend" to pay me for home improvements I made on his home. I plan to persue this in small claims.
The repairs and improvements I did were without a contractors license, though I believe most of what was done does not require a license. However, I am not sure exactly what jobs ARE required by California code to be done by licensed contractors ONLY.
My "friend" was without question aware of my unlicensed statis, claiming it was OK to do the job on a bathroom repair, (subfloor replacement), Because he had obtained a permit.
I am trying to be as prepared as possible for any problems that may impede on my case against him in order to collect. If the issue of my unlicensed statis were to occur what are the possible ramifications? Would it benefit him in any way to use this against me even though HE is the one insisting to go ahead. (knowing NOW I should have asked this question BEFORE I did the work!) Also, on the flipside of things how would the homeowner fair from having used an unlicensed dealer if this were brought out in the open?
I also welcome any URL'S that will lead me to more information regarding licensing.
Thanks,
