What is the name of your state?
California

Today I was told by a good friend that the president of a youth football conference that I used to be a part of accused me falsely of being a child molester. He said it to my friend's face and there were other people around. My friend is willing to testify. I do not have a lot of money, but how do I first get him to stop spreading this filthy lie about me? And second am I entilted to any financial compensation for this slander?

You would have to file a lawsuit and try to get an injunction against him.

Based on your post, his statements were likely defamatory, which means that if you can get together about $10k or so for legal fees and expenses, you might get to court in a year or two.... and might win a judgment against him.
