Check out the Virginia Residential Landlord and Tenant Act (VRLT)
and determine if you fall under it.

You also need to supply the forum more information, such as;

When did you move out?

Do you live in an apt ? How many units?

Did you give proper written notice?

Do you know if your LL owns other property?

thank you "Alaska landlord",

The situation is that around 2 months back, me and a group of friends have a six days vacation in Orlando Florida. Because we want to have private time so we decide to rent a single family house from a local lady. To reserve the house, she first make me to pay 200 for deposit. Around amonth before the trip, she asked use to send her another 600 for the rent of the house. At this point, no one have problem. However, when I came back from the vacation about a week, I ask her to give me back the two hundred which she already cash right after I send to her. The first two times she did not response to my message. Since I put very hard, she then replied my message saying that she is going to send the check right a way. It is more than five days since I got the email. I do not belief that the mail is going be that long.

What can I do, can I sue her. This person just try to rip people off

thanks

Sarah,

This is my third attempt to get in touch with you regarding my deposit for the house rental. Funny that when the rental is due, you are very fast in email response

Sarah,

When should I expect to receive the 200 deposit back? BTW, we have great time. The address is kind of hard to find from the GPS then
