What is the name of your state? CA

I am the custodial parent and child support was ordered (in 1992) in Humboldt County. I've since then moved to Shasta County and the child support order was transferred there. My ex lives in Humboldt County and I would like to hire an attorney to enforce the child support (he has only paid 6 months of the 12 years the order has been in place). Do I hire an attorney in Humboldt County, where he is, or Shasta County, where the child and I are?

My response:

Shasta. That's because that's where the court file is now located, and that's the county and court that has jurisdiction over the child and the current court orders.

Thank you IAAL - here is the next question.

Since the nc father lives in Humboldt, how is it done to get him served, etc. He was served with a court order to show that he is looking for work, as a way of paying child support, and he never turned the paperwork in. After that, the Humboldt Sheriff's department went to serve him with contempt of court paperwork and his girlfriend said that he no longer lives there. I know for fact that he does live there. Now what? This is just so hard to do from far away.
