What is the name of your state? AP

I am from a small Command of about 250 and we are having a General Court Martial in a different location so we have to send 50 people TAD to where the proceedings will be held.

I am going to be the Senior Bailiff in a General Court Martial. One problem, I have never been to a court martial. Right now it looks like I will be leaving in about a week and the proceedings will start one day after I arrive.

Oh it will be a Navy Court Martial, if you have any info please let me know.

Take a look see at the following:

Furthermore, you should be speaking with JAG about your upcoming assignment as being a bailiff.

It is very simple. You are the guy who says all rise when the judge enters, and then again when the members enter. Meet with the military judge and he/she should give you the low down on how they want you to perform your duty. The SJA's office and trial counsel may also be able to help you.

It is REALLY simple (from your perspective).

You do whatever the judge tells you to do. You scowl menacingly at attorneys. You enforce courtroom decorum (Take that hat off! No gum! Behind the bar, mister!). When court is not in session you wander from office to office picking off the best donuts and coffee. You ensure that any instructions you give are contradictory to any orders given by any other bailiff ( Bailiff #1 "Go stand over there." Bailliff #2 "Don't stand there").

At least that's how the pros do it. ;-)

Thanks so much guys.

I would have spoken with our Jag or even our LN1 expect we don't have one. We have a very small Command and our LN1 transfered about 2 months ago. There was another LN on our base from a different Command but she left for an IA two weeks before I got back from the Middle East.

Here is how this went down.

"Petty Officer ***** you are going to ********* and you are going to be the Senior Bailiff. You will leave here on the 6th, the Court Martial starts on the 7th."

But thanks again guys.

Well thanks Shorty Long,

I know most of posts on this forum are about AWOL and Deserters. I have been reading this forums for about a year now.

I have experience on Navy Capitan's masts, that's about it. I am the Command Master At Arms, this is not my rate just a collateral duty.
