That might not be the best answer, depending upon the state and the specific matters involved.Family law
What is the name of your state?I am preparing for an Emancipation petition. Should I hire a lawyer to represent me? If so, what field should they have experience in? Family law, Child custody, etc.?
Kansas is rougher. If you have parents, then you have to show you're both already living on your own and your parents agree to the emancipation or at least don't protest.I live in Kansas and I am 16.
Thank you for providing the name of your state, Smithm.I live in Kansas and I am 16.
So, you already live on your own and are self-supporting? That certainly makes emancipation more likely.Thank you all very much. It is much appreciated.
Yes I meet the requirements.
Do you think hiring a lawyer to represent me would be more respected by the judge? Or if I represent myself would that portray more independence?
Also, I have various reasons for petitioning this. Is the fact that I am forced to partake in religious events and activities even though it is 100% against my beliefs one valid reason? Would that be taken seriously by the judge?
A lawyer is not necessary - although having a lawyer accompany you to court can ease some anxiety. How are you being forced to take part in religious events if you don't currently live with your parents/guardians?
Not living with your parents/guardians with their consent is one of the requirements.
If you bring up those religious issues in court in Kansas it may not help your cause.
If you are in court you need a lawyer.
Ah. Emancipation is sounding less likely for you now. You do not appear to be in a position yet where a petition for emancipation will be taken seriously by a court.I'm planning to move out soon, I still live with my guardian currently.
My guardian forces me to attend her religious services 2 a week, plus events that her organization provides. They are fully aware I am strongly opposed to their religion and continue to force me.
This reason is only one of few that I have, is it worth bringing up? Will it have a potent pull in my favor?
