I claimed bankruptcy and was discharged of several debts. One of them was for rent owed at my old apartment. I had a roomate that was sued because he was the co-signer on the lease. He then sued me and won. I was under the impression I could not be sued for something I was discharged of in bankruptcy. I am wondering what was the point of claiming bankruptcy if i still have to pay the debt? just to a different person!

Did you show up in court to DEFEND yourself ??

You can be sued, but they should not win - but if you didn't bring up the fact that the debt had been discharged in bankrutpcy, how is the court going to know this ??

You don't. You need to appeal and/or file a motion to vacate based in the fact that the debt was discharged in bankruptcy and the lawsuit was a violation of the permanent injuntion of the discharge.

You have every right to present your defense, that includes providing documents to support your side. The judge could be on thin ice ... if you could go after judges for being buttheads and ruling against federal law !!
