What is the name of your state? I'm in OR, Ex is in ID.

The shortened version: I live in Oregon with our children under an emergency temp custody order. I have a temp support order for $918/mo for the two children, one of whom is handicapped. Our children are 1 and 2.

STBX was served with the temp orders Friday. As soon as he reads over the paperwork, he calls me and tells me "You're not getting a f#cking dime in child support because I just called in and quit my job."

I called his employer and verified- he did indeed quit his job.

So what happens now? Do I have to wait until he gets a new job before the CS starts, or does he just start racking up arrearages?

The sucky thing is that I really need him to start helping out. He terminated the health coverage on both children, and as I stated before, our younger child is handicapped. (He has cerebral palsy, epilepsy, and an arachnoid cyst on his cerebrum). His medications alone cost over $700/mo without insurance.

At this point I don't know what to do. The bills are about $2,000 a month MORE than I make. I'm a very proud person, I've never accepted a government handout and I just don't like the idea of it.

I have applied for Medicaid for the children. I should find out about that sometime this next week.

So...my questions are how do they "make" him start helping out? Also, if it ends up that we absolutely have to get state assistance, do they go after NCP for repayment?

Thanks

When my ex quit his job to avoid support the state found him in contempt of the court order and a warrent was issued. They arrested him 8 months later and he had to pay 1000 dollar purge to get out. I havent seen a penny since then and that was in 2001. Hope you have better luck than I did! :)
