What if you sent a request for validation and they don't validate? Do they have 30 days to do so? What happens then?

They are barred from taking any action UNTIL they validate.

...and no, they do not just have 30 days to validate, they can take as long as they want -- or they don't EVER have to validate, they can just as easily sell it off and avoid the hassle altogether.

Only if the request was in writing and within the 30 days of first contact.
Technically correct.. but not in reality.
Most any 3rd party collection agency will (or at least SHOULD) respond to a valid 'request to validate', no matter when it was received. The repercussions of not doing so are both expensive and time-consuming on the collector in just having to explain why they failed to respond when the debtor files a complaint.
Better to avoid the problem than to try to fight it... even if you MIGHT be found in compliance later.
