What is the name of your state?va.granddaughter had child, but father refused to sign birth cert. child has always been in the grandparents care since shes been borned.(5years)during that time the grand daughter got married to another guy and this guy put his name on the birth cert.also during this time we got full custody of the child. the grand daughter and her husband have agreed to let us adopt the child.the grand daughter has a great relationship with her father's mother, and only a luke warm relationship with her father.we would always keep that door open with her other family, no matter what. i say adopt and if in the future he decides to stop playing father, and want to become a real father let him go througt the process of proving he's the father.(with our grand daughter husband already on the birth cert)if this should happen do we stand a chance in keeping the child,are wrost case, joint custody? in advance thank you very much

For starters, the child's mother and her husband could get into a bit of trouble for falsifying the birth certificate. If you were to adopt the child, the biofather could contest it and have it overturned should he choose to.
