What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California
what is a contribution lawsuit? How do you deal with this type of lawsuit when you are not liable?

There are not many articles on the internet concerning theme. This topic on Wikipedia will help you to get familiar with contribution law. In California it is called “partial equitable indemnity.”

I agree with the other poster that the best way to deal with the lawsuit, especially when you are not liable, is to hire an attorney who can work with you to get you dismissed from the suit or defend against it.

Here is a link to a California Supreme Court case that details the law that is apparently the basis for the lawsuit filed against you:

American Motorcycle Assn. v. Superior Ct, 578 P.2d 899, Cal: Supreme Court, 1978: http://scholar.google.com/scholar_case?case=10357310141539155145&q=contribution+law+partial+equitable+indemnity&hl=en&as_sdt=4,5

Good luck.
