Arizona, My house was robbed and I am in the process of claiming what was stollen through my homeowners insurance "Liberty Mutual" the representative assigned to me explained i have to do the fallowing.. is this whats to be expected through every major company?

wait 7days for me to receive paper work in the mail on what to fill out and claim..(i begged him to fax it to me)

fill out what was missing and sign and date it, mail it back to him with receipts, bills, estimates, boxes, serial numbers, manuals, of the items stollen...

from there they send my paper work to "insurers world" where they derpreciate everything and send me a check, i then have to go out and purchase everything for the new value.. and send them a receipt back... then they pay the difference... i hope i explained that well... if not its because my rep didnt either...

what my question is this normal? why do i have to jump through so many hoops? i feel like im getting the run arround.

First of all, I don't think this is a legal question.

Secondly, I don't see what the big deal is. This is very normal, in my experience.

Yep, especially the 2-check part. If you read your policy you only get replacement cost if you actually go back and replace what is gone. Otherwise, they only provide actual cash value (the depreciated amount). And, yes, the other steps are normal too. The average amount of time to settle a claim is less than 30 days, but most states don't have a law on it.

So, if after 30 days you're still going back and forth, post back, and describe what's going on.

ahh ic thank you, what about proving proof of ownership of the item, many dvds and games were stolen... i no longer have receipts or boxes for these items since they took the game and case itself... will they honor items i no longer have proof of?

They realize that you can't possibly have receipts for every single thing. So, make sure that you are thorough when you provide the list. They don't really like you to come back later with more stuff that you've noticed gone.

While many of the posters are correct: that your experience is "normal", it isn't "right" and only works to the insurer's benefit.

You need to read your policy particularly Section 1 "Your duties following a loss". Simply because what you are being asked to do by your insurer is "normal" doesn't mean it is the proper interpretation of you policy language or in your best interests.
