I moved into this house when my roomate asked my to come rent free because he was going to be a asst. truck driver and would be away for long periods. He had a dog and cat. He did not get the job because the company the driver was with would not allow it. Because of that we could not pay the rent. My roomate gave notice and now the owner is stating that we have to be out immedaitely. Thats fine for the roomate. He has somewhere to go .But i dont atm. Can i legally stay till the end of the month? The roomate was remolding the house for the owner and the house is not finished by far.. Much still needs to be done.. I just stay in my room and leave the rest of the house alone. all my room needs is outlet covers and carpet. its painted and everything.

Notice for nonpayment of rent is typically a 5 day notice in South Carolina. If the tenant remains in the unit after this time period (and has not met their financial obligations) the landlord can then begin the eviction process:
