Massachusetts allows a debtor to exempt $125 in wages per week. Anything above that is 'game'.

Doesn't that go against the Federal minimum of 40x the minimum wage ?

Sorry, but FEDERAL exemption is NOT 40 x minimum wage.

The FEDERAL exemption is: "75% of disposable earnings per week, or an amount = to 30 x federal minimum hourly wage, whichever is greater."
And yes, the federal exemptions (if larger than the state allowance) supercedes a lower state allowance.

Well, excuuuuuuuuuuuussssssssse meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee !

I was 10 off. I know I read that 40 number somewhere recently, seems to have stuck in my head.

The point is, the Federal in this case should prevail. Maybe people could survive on $125 a week when that law was written, today they'd be living under a bridge if left with that amount to survive on.
