What is the name of your state?ky
We went to several different lawyers but they all want us to go bankrupt.
Like to find a lawyer to fight the credit card people. or least hold them off
for a while to see if things start getting better for us, before we have to do bankruptcy, so we can pay them.

I assume the debts are recent.
If you've been in default for a year or two settlement at a discount may be possible.
But don't rely on friends and familiy for advice on settlement.
It is a lot more difficult than verbally agreeing on a number, and then sending a check with paid in full written across it!

Your situation is completely different, IMO, than the OP's. YOU asked just the other day how to not pay your debts entirely, without BK. You want to take NO responsibility. The OP simply asked how to hold them off, w/o BK, so they can pay later. The "pay later" means they have no money right now for that debt. If I remember correctly, "pay later" and "not pay at all" mean two different things. Get a life already!

Is it a full moon or something?
This used to be a respectable site.
Still is I hope.
Can someone please post where free prozac samples are offered?

State Az
Please tell me what "Settlement at a discount" means. I am new to this site and to all the legal jargon.

I was recently sued by a Junk Debt Buyer (unsucessfully) they asked the court to award them 13k in damages. I only charged 6,677.00
Some Junk Debt Buyers may only have paid 4 cents on the dollar for alleged debts that have not been paid upon in a long time. I offered 1,400.00 even though the debt was out of statute, I didn't know whether the judge would follow the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act or state law and so I offered that discounted sum.
We did not have a meeting of the minds, so eventually things worked out well when they dismissed their suit.
So in other words you may be able to settle for less than the full amount if the debt is within the statute of limitations. this may mean merely paying what you are really alleged to have charged or received in services.
Do EVERYTHING in writing.
Nothing by phone.
Learn the restrictive endorsement provisions of your state law.
Learn about the related area of law Accord and satisfaction.

Stay away from "debt settlement " Companies. They will steal you blind.
